Eat Right Georgia

Donna S. Martin, EdS, RD, LD, SNS is director of school nutrition at Burke County High School in Waynesboro, GA, where nearly half of the school's students live below the poverty line. Recently she was featured in a CBS News story about her work to provide meals for hundreds of students who were otherwise facing malnutrition. The school's football team recently won the Georgia state Class AAA championship, and the team's coach called the nutrition program begun by Ms. Martin "a big part of our success."

A new year provides the feeling of a fresh start for all, which brings an abundance of diet and weight loss resolutions to the Dietitian’s doorstep. Though many clients’ end goals may be similar, each individual client will need their own personalized map to get there.  The acronym S.M.A.R.T. is commonly used in goal setting and helps to ensure that realistic, attainable goals are always the target1.  Tailoring S.M.A.R.T. goals for clients provides them with that custom-made map.
